{fresh off the needles} The Rapunzel Hat

I awoke one morning this Fall thinking about my newest knitting project and Rapunzel’s braids. I wanted a new winter hat with cable knit ear flaps so long that they made me look like her. This hat took me a long time to finish, mostly because I worked on it in fits and spurts. If I had just focused on it ~ I would have had it off the needles within a week, no problem. The hat is made out of Manos Del Uruguay multi-color wool-silk blend. Silk is great because it keeps you warmer than wool alone. I used the double seed stitch as the main pattern in the hat. The “braids” are my favorite go-to cable stitch – the chevron from A Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara G. Walker.
