a set of hand-painted chairs {Mom’s old chairs = My new chairs!}

When we were in Detroit over the holidays my mom let me go shopping in her furniture graveyard. She also pointed out these gorgeous, hand-painted black arm chairs to me. Even though she still had them incorporated into the design of her home, they were under-utilized and she knew that we’d truly appreciate them in our house. (Oh mama, how I love your home decor purges!)

They used to be upholstered in black salon style Moire silk with a “C” for Cupp monogrammed in the center of the seat. They were very formal dressed like that, but I must admit that I liked them better that way! I’ll make it my goal this year to return them to their original splendor – only this time – we’ll do a “C” for Cupp and a “D” for Dragoo. Or maybe we’ll take it down a notch from fancy and do a casual “A” and “S?”

These two chairs are only a fraction of what we were able to fit into our car for the drive back to The Country House. I’ve been working to find places in our home decor for all the treasures that we inherited. All the while, I am still working to keep the style of our country-modern house looking like it’s our own. Speaking of which…

It’s a bit overwhelming to bring so many new-to-me old family pieces into our house at once – not to mention new artwork – yikes! (Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice “problem” to have. My mind is spinning a mile a minute.) Mom’s hand-me-downs have jump started my desire to put the finishing soft furnishing touches on our master bedroom and fireplace room. Over the last few days, I have been selecting fabrics for them both…stay tuned!
