ABCD Design File {The Feature Wall}
Rayman Boozer, owner of Apartment 48 (one of my very favorite stops for home accessories!) takes a rustic approach to modern design. His NYC apartment was featured in Elle Decor back in 2006 and this image of grouped and framed images made it into the ABCD Design file.
I had collected several photos throughout our courtship and from the wedding. I framed them all in different neutral frames. Some were modern black gallery frames and others in gold or silver with burlap, grey or black mattes. I was still thinking about hanging our personal “feature wall” but for some reason I could never bring myself to do it. It just seemed like maybe I had made my “feature” statement in the front room and by having another “feature wall” I might be repeating too much of a good thing. Needless to say, I moved our grouping from the bathroom to the hallway, into the dining room and back to the bedroom. I played “dress up” on all the walls – trying to envision our personal photo frame collage on each wall. I kind of regret that I never pulled the trigger and hung these fab photos before it was time to move! They really are a great collection.
I *completely* love all of our important photos as one unified group. I even thought about framing some of our wedding stationery to tie in our love story … our belly band perhaps? I have a few photos from our wedding reception that lead up to the moment Mr. D surprised me on the dance floor. They would be so cute framed *smaller in scale as a trio* next to the *larger scale* best photo of them all:
I can’t wait until we are in our new spot. I am totally going to get this personal feature wall together and hang them up. {FYI: I won’t be recreating the 48 mirror grid again. Seriously, someone *uh, me* needs to get up on a ladder once a month and keep them sparkling – iicky and tedious job – as each needs to be made streak and dust free individually, without messing up or leaving splotches on the black paint.} There are just far too many fun and fabulous photos that we’ve collected not to do this personal feature wall. I look forward to adding frames to the group as time passes on too. (I will need to be sure we have a great shot from Monaco this summer when we go to watch the beginning of the Tour de France! HOORAY, I can’t wait for the 4th of July!!!)

I have found many, many wonderful examples of this “feature wall” idea both online and in magazines. I tore this image below out of a magazine … of which I have since forgotten where it came from … House Beautiful? UK Elle Decor? House & Garden?? Sorry – if anyone knows feel free to e-mail me and I will give proper credit!! I adore how the palette of the room is completely neutral and the only color comes from the artwork.

This pink room is from the home of Dave Alhadeff, owner of design gallery The Future Perfect via Design Sponge. Same idea, minus *of course* the framing aspect.

In my opinion, a feature wall always looks great – especially if the photos and art that you frame mean a lot to you!

I saw that one from the Style Files and was drawn to that, as well. I don’t know you, but I feel like that last one from Style Files is very “you.” I’m only basing that on the pictures that you had up from your home before. You had a few shabby chic pieces that served as some beautiful focal points. No doubt that whatever you do w/ your new place will be beautiful! Please post pictures during the process and when you’re done! I’d hate to miss out.
