The Walnut Street Project {Oy vey!}

This new project has me very, very anxiety ridden. It’s a mess. I feel as though I have maybe bitten off more than I am interested in chewing. Perhaps I should have previewed the property (in person) before I snapped up the job and headed to Michigan? Don’t get me wrong, I have been having a lovely time seeing old friends and my family … but on the work side of things …. errrr, um, bleh!
kitchen
Through the doorway in the kitchen, there is a foyer that has marble flooring, a half bath (with black and green stone counters) a laundry room and a windowless bedroom/study which has blonde color wood floor. The study painted army green, the bathroom is mustard yellow, everything else is ivory with exception of the niches on the wall which are a dark brown – it will all be painted – as far as I know we are stuck with the floors as they are.
Kitchen Backsplash and Counter
I guess what I am saying is that the “bones” of this place are less than optimal. NOTHING coordinates. I am convinced that the person in charge was color blind. (It is the only excuse for this mess that I can think of!)
Living room MESS!
Black counters with green undertone, warm colored marble on the backsplash, pinkish color marble on the floor of the foyer and kitchen. Red color wood in the livingroom, and blonde color wood in the study. Grey carpet in the Bedrooms? WAH! It is out of the budget to change the fixed things like floors and countertops. If you have not got my drift by now, I will get to the point. I am a strong believer that the floor and countertops should be approximately the same tone as one another. They don’t have to be the same color but it is just more pleasing to the eye to read the horizontal surfaces as one tone. This mess of color on the counters, floors and fixed items is making my job (picking paint colors and soft furnishings) VERY difficult!
Master Bedroom
I am sorry to vent and complain. I know that you don’t read ABCD Design to get your daily dose of negativity! I realize in this sort of economy that I am lucky to have the job. I guess that I may just have to accept that this *might not* end up being the most gorgeous finished design project ever – UNLESS – I can convince my client that there are hard surface changes that need to be made. Unifying the wood floors throughout the apartment would be a good start!

    Oh Amy! I’m so sorry to hear that! You truly have your hands full with this one. I was overwhelmed just reading about how many things “didn’t” match or at least had the same color tone! OH MY! Keep us posted… I have every confidence in you- that you’ll do a wonderful job.

    Wow… this sounds completely overwhelming! Is it terrible of me to say that I’m looking forward to reading about all the messy decisions that will need to be made? I say that in full confidence, of course – because I’m sure you’ll get to the best solution possible!
