Aug 25th 2009 09:03 am Wedding Registry Wish List
I just realized that it’s been a few weeks since I made wedding registry suggestions! One item in my kitchen I could not live without is the Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron French Oven. It easily becomes the core piece in any well-equipped kitchen.

For generations quality, durability, and versatility has been the name of the game at Le Creuset. (They have been handcrafting enameled cast iron cookware in Northern France since 1925!) The shape that Le Creuset is best known for happens to be the Round French Ovens, aka the Dutch Oven. The cast iron provides superb heat retention and distribution, and the enamel is hard-wearing, non-reactive and that makes the number of recipes that you can do in this pot absolutely limitless. From braising meat to making soup or when you’re baking a bread pudding, you’ll find yourself reaching for your Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron French Oven over and over again!

Amen!! I use mine at least 4 times a week. Expensive but well worth it. And if you happen to be driving interstate 95, there is a factory store in South Carolina right after (or before depending your direction of travel) you get to North Carolina. I can’t ever remember the name of the town but there are signs along the highway for the Le Creuset Factory Store for miles so you can’t miss it. And at 40-50% off retail, you HAVE to stop!

I am fairly new to French oven cooking – but I cheaped out and bottom a no name last year while I practice. I have another Le creuset must – the reversible grill griddle – i love it for grilling in winter – but I digress.. the Dutch oven is on my Christmas wish list – you’ll have to post some hearty recipes – come fall..:-)
Is it just me or do you have fantastic taste in everything?..:-)

I love…love…love my Le Creuset. I wouldn’t give it up for anything. In fact, I request that my family bury it with me when I die.

Le Creuset has been around for over 80 years and definitely knows what they are doing when it comes to making enameled cast iron cookware.

Thanks for sharing this info. There’s nothing like good quality cookware. Something that will last and last and look beautiful years down the road

ok, it’s obviously just me, but I find this stuff unpleasantly heavy to use. I can never get used to any heavy cookware, I don’t like cast iron either for that reason even though it is the only good pan to make cornbread in.

Aimee, yes – it is heavy to work with – this is why I only push purchasing one piece, the dutch oven. It’s a two handled pot that can be used in many different ways!
