Oct 19th 2009 09:07 am Over before it begins? {say it ain’t so!}

As you know, I have been thinking about dark, black painted trim in our new place for some time now. (Whenever that should actually happen is STILL up in the air … but that is another story!) My fingers are crossed that this “look” doesn’t become the white kitchen with soapstone counters of 2007. I swear, all through 2004 and 2005 I dreamt upon that “timeless” look. When it came time for our renovation in 2006, I went for it. Not long after it was installed – I found that our kitchen instantly became sooooo 2007. It popped up in every cooking show, on a Verizon commercial and numerous Appliance commercials. Not to mention, it was the look House Beautiful selected as “Kitchen of the Year.” Let’s just say, (for me) it was too trendy. I was “over it” before I could even enjoy it!

Late last week I saw this post on Desire to Inspire. Guess what? The first three photos were white walls with black wood trim! I am going to have to keep my eyes peeled for other instances of this popping up around the blog-i-sphere. My little decorating dream may be squashed before I even implement it!

This is so dramatic. Just love it. And I love using a darker color for the molding even if it isn’t so pronounced, like a dark carmel with a cream or custard wall. I’ve found art shows especially well with this look.

OYE! It isn’t *quite* black, but even Better Homes and Gardens is “tweeting” about dark kitchen cabinets today! http://bit.ly/D6KkD

I hate to tell you – but it’s already there. Are you into dark deep intense purple at all? Because that will be next IMHO and it will take awhile to get to this stage.
My 2 cents, for what it’s worth.

Aaaack! Say it ain’t so. I may have missed the interior design bandwagon. Found another post about black trim via Urban Sardines: http://urbansardines.wordpress.com/2009/10/14/elegant-molding/

I can totally relate to the “to trendy for me” comment. I’m the exact same way. Although, I must admit, dark trim has always been a favorite of mine and it’s been around for decades. I say go for it.
