*House-Hunters* Connecticut Edition: #1

Scarecrows in Town Every time Mr. D grabs the remote with the intention of turning on the TV I chortle “House-Hunters!” He usually responds with a swift “Wife, they only show it at certain times. It can’t be on every time you want to watch.” While I am intelligent enough to realize this, I usually respond with something sassy like “A girl can always dream big, can’t she?” The fact is that I’d prefer to catch a back to back set of House Hunters episodes over football any day of the week. Needless to say, I was really looking forward to doing some house hunting of our own!
House Hunting Pumpkin Heads The last several days have been exhaust-i-cating! We started our journey by driving the 800 miles between Knoxville and Connecticut. Following that, we had three straight days of house hunting. We were in the car from 9am-5pm and saw absolutely every property that may be of interest. We saw a house that was built in the 1700′s and many, many others from the 1800′s. We saw 1970′s cabins and nondescript 1990′s dwellings. We even saw one that was so storybook perfect -you’d die. It had 200 year old wood beams in the ceiling. It had all the potential in the world. We called it “The Dollhouse.”
Dollhouse CottageSome of the homes were promising, others were not. Bottom line is that after three days we whittled it down to a “top three” list. It was just like they do on House-Hunters! An offer has been placed on our #1 house. We gave them a low-ball number because the house is empty (the owners have moved away to New Mexico) and the listing said “Submit all offers!” So we shall see how it unfolds over the next few days…

Thanks everyone. It’s so nervewracking to wait on these negotiations!

I am not sure how long this will go on for, but we are hoping we’ll have a deal by the end of the week – fingers crossed.

    Thanks for commenting! xoabcd

OMG, we are going through the exact same thing right at this very minute! And in fact, just today, we narrowed our list to our top 3. I can’t wait to see where we both end up. And I love for House Hunters! I feel like I’m on an episode myself!

  7. FROM THE RIGHT BANK on 04 Nov 2009 at 4:55 pm

I meant “I LIVE for House Hunters.”

Clearly, Right Bank Girl – I am behind on my blog reading…

I will have to pop by from the right bank to the left coast and read all the details about your home search!

It’s a good time to buy if you’ve got the cash/ability to find a mortgage. Deals left and right!

Live for Love House Hunters… It’s fun. I especially like the international version. ;)

Thanks for commenting, and good luck with your negotiations!

Okay now! Waaaaaaaiiiiiit a second! So are you telling me that “The Dollhouse” got bumped from the list because the husband bumped his head? That I now will no longer have my guest house option available?!! Wow. So that’s how things are gonna get played out. You’re choosing your husband’s needs over “mine”. And here I thought we were tight. ;)

Can’t wait to see how this all turns out! How exciting! And y’all don’t waste any time neither!

(And given that image of your hubbie by the door I think you made the wise decision.) :)

    Uncle Beefy,

Guest cottage or not, there is always a guest room waiting for you! ;) That darling house was such perfection, but every door jam hit Mr. D square in the nose. He had to “duck” each time. One of those times he stood up too quick and had this egg sized bump for days.

Fact is, that is no way to live… if I were married to someone my height, I would have been alllll over that property like a bee to honey.

We’re eager to get back to the City asap. His job prospects are looking up – not to mention, we are paying enough in storage bills right now to pay the mortgage on these houses! Eeeeek.

Thanks for commenting – I hope we can bake together on one of your visits to CT!

haha… love this! Totally feeling you on the tall husband dilemma. When we look at apartments, Trevor steps inside the shower stall to see how uncomfortable taking a shower there would be. It’s *always* uncomfortable for him (he has to do this silly little bend to get his head wet), but some showers are definitely more comfortable than others.

    On to the next dollhouse!

    Maggie,

There were definitely a few where Scott didn’t even come close to fitting in the shower. Mostly the buildings from 1700-1800. I guess they just didn’t have 6’4 men back then!

We even had troubles in Cape style houses – when he went up the stairs he had to bend over to walk around.

I popped over to your blog today… changes a-foot? Do tell!!!
