Dec 3rd 2009 06:33 pm The new place {Welcome Home!}
WOW ~ what a ridiculously busy three days! We’ve been up to our eyeballs in storage facility visits, camping at our friend’s apartment and shopping for inexpensive fixes for what we couldn’t find in our storage facility. Can you imagine how the movers labeled my dishes, pots, pans, crystal, silverware, measuring cups and cookbooks? “Kitchen.” They labeled all the boxes from the kitchen, “kitchen.” Now that is helpful, isn’t it? NOT! Imagine sifting through 40 boxes marked “kitchen” while they charge you man hours for the fellas who are there to help move boxes around. Grrrrrrrrr. No thanks.

OooOpsie, it’s over! There it is. Our living area is on the left and the bedroom area is to the right. Two adults happy to share less than 700 square feet ~ only in New York! Honestly, I am delighted with the space. It’s all sparkly and new. It gets fabulous East and Southern light. We have a fab view of someone’s green roof deck. (Lucky dogs!) Heck, there is a view of the East River from what will be the bedroom area - how great is that? YAY!
My favorite part of our new place is across from the kitchen. It’s where I will be blogging from. I bet it is also where I will be sipping my morning espresso while I return emails. I suppose it will also be our “home office” of sorts. Pretty good, no? And when we’re not working, the door slides shut, out of site. LOVE that.

I popped into DWR to take a look at the Eames Management Chair in person. They’re a lovely piece of design history, aren’t they? By the way, I learned that there is a blow-out Herman Miller sale at DWR this week. I have to admit, I am half-way tempted. *Half-way.*
We’re staying at a friends place in Soho until we get approval from the rental management of our new building. Can you believe that our lease started December 1, we’re allowed to move our “stuff ” in today – yet we’re not allowed to sleep there until we’re approved? There is no guess from them as to when approval might come. It’s crazy. It’s totally nuts. It’s soooo New York. Fingers crossed, we’ll get to sleep there by the weekend!

That is the quintessential New York apartment. I remember those days before I moved to CT. You have great dreams and vision. I am sure it will look amazing. Of course, typical moving angst – we have your $$$ but you can’t live here… Wishing you health and happiness in your new home!

Love this post! The tiny tour was fab – and the movers labeling everything “Kitchen” ?!?! You’ve got to be kidding me. Actually, I can think of quite a few men who would do the same… Looking forward to seeing this place come to life with all your goodies – good luck finally getting in there!

You know what, it’s all just so hip! And so New York! Ok, so you may have to get very creative with storage space, but nothing a pro like you can’t handle. My heart truly goes out to you on the kitchen boxes, really what were they thinking. Bet you’re so pleased to be moving into a place so sparkly new and clean! Best wishes on your new place, my dear.

I’m sharing the New York layout with you. Of course offices in closets are normal, heck even chic. This is why we love it here, right?! I bet you’re so eager to get you’re clothes safely put aways and to have everything it its place. Congrats!

I have the eames management chair in the light blue leather and it is one of my favorite pieces of furniture I own and worth the investment since I sit and write at my computer all day {sigh} I got the casters for hardwood floors too. Don’t sit in it with dark wash jeans though, because it rubs off on the chair! I was able to use leather cleaner to get most of it off but my chair now has a bit of a dark blue patina : ) Congrats on your new place!

I was thinking the violet or plum Spinnybeck leather for ours… Maybe that’s crazy, but I am loving that color!

Your new place in NYC is ADORABLE and the light is fantastic-worth it’s weight in gold there in NYC~
Congratulations to you and your sweetie and I also, like all of us leaving comments, can’t wait to see how it all pulls together when you’re finished.
By the way, if you need a new friend to help you find your way around, say hi to @SusanSerraCKD. She is an incredible and very well known kitchen designer who lives very close by you and a good TW friend of mine. She is such a sweetheart!
Happy HouseDays!

Thanks Leslie!
I think I have it covered as I have been a “NY’er” since 1999 so I am pretty familiar with getting around. However, kitchen design… now you are talking! I will totally check out your friend. Thanks for the hint.
We’re in that oh-so-familiar 12-14 week waiting period on a few pieces of furniture, so I suppose the unveil may not happen until Spring! Yikes.
Thanks for commenting today.

In no time your new place will scream “you.” I can’t wait to see it when it is all revealed. In the meantime, I am hoping for your sake for a speedy unpacking process.

Tori, We’re all unpacked – unfortunately, it is still a little sparse. We had a terrible time getting what we needed out of storage. We were also scared of bringing too much into a small space. I think it’s going to take a while before it seems like home *sweet* home!
