Taking stock, making resolutions, working on a plan.
I don’t know about you, but I have never been much of a “New Years Resolution” kind of gal. Each year, I will vow to go to the gym on a regular basis – but that usually goes unsaid – because I have made fitness a top priority for years. Since I was in high school, there has always been an unsaid commitment. *However* with all the moving, travel, and my work load (not to mention having a husband that has been home 100% of the time!) I have fallen off the workout wagon. This New Year I will climbing back on. That’s a promise.
It’s no secret that Mr. D and I are at the end of a very long and dark year. Running from one fire to put out the next has been quite exhausting. No doubt I have learned a lot. I have realized I need to handle certain situations differently. I have been reminded of what is truly most important. I have also found myself ready to make decisions about the direction my business is taking.
Today, we travel to Michigan for Christmas. On Friday we will travel to San Diego for post-holiday fun with Mr. D’s family. It is my intention to take a few weeks off over the holidays. Bespoke Stationery will not be accepting new projects until after the New Year, and ABCD Design will be put on vacation. I am going to take this time to explore my options. I am not saying that the clock will strike 12 on New Years Eve and everything will become clear to me. This is all a learning process.

P.S. Images in this post (except the last one which is mine!) are from a lovely Tumblr page called CacaoCocoa.

Amy, very well put!!! I think those of us who fought tooth-and-nail to be where we are now at the end 2009 will be better for it. My Mr. D and I have endured a lot and have managed to rip hard won successes from the jaws of defeat this year. We have definitely re-prioritized and focused like never before! Here is to a 2010 full of health, wealth, love and JOY!!!

Have a wonderful time in Michigan and San Diego with your families! The events of 09 certainly made it an interesting and trying way to end the decade for all of us! Perhaps 2010 will be a start of a new and better cycle. Safe travels and we will all be back for the New Year refreshed!! Snug Hug!

Amy,
Without a doubt you have integrity, love, passion, honor (you always give credit where it’s due) and you give from your entire heart. That is so completely rare in this business. I am honored to know you, love you, call you my friend and colleague. Here’s sending you every possible good wish, that dreams comes true for you and Mr. “D”. I know (like your oh so cute card said – thx babe!!) ’09 sucked ‘a$$’, but 2010 is going to be amazing – I feel it. So travel safely, enjoy the holidays with your family and see ya when you get back to the apple. Champagne to toast the new year when you return ok?

Thanks for sharing this with us. It serves as a good reminder to all of us how important it is to step back during this time of the year to reflect upon the previous 12 months and reformulate a plan to move forward. Breathe and relax. Safe travels too.

Amy,
I just got a new laptop for Christmas (yay! With less than 1 GB of space left on my ancient laptop AKA 7 years in the computer world this was a major need – especially since one of my resolutions is to start a blog in 2010!!) As I was sitting here thinking “what website is special enough to be my first go-to on my new gift??” there was no question it was abcddesign!! Love your blog – it is my favorite part of the day! Hope you have a Merry Christmas and I look forward to your return in the new year!!

I’m right there with you Amy! I never thought that I would be making a New Year’s resolution to get back on the workout wagon! With my complete 360 in careers, I too have fallen off the wagon! Here’s to getting back to good habits!
Happy 2010!
