Traditional “Weekend” Home {inspiration}
Even though nothing is set in stone, I can’t help but start to dream decorate our place in the country! I’ll be working with the furniture, china, art and household goods that we already have in storage. It’s going to be so much fun (yet ultra-challenging!) to find new ways to reinvent our old belongings.
There are certain elements I really like about this house. The color palette is a little too baby-nursery for my taste and some of the fussy features don’t fit my style – but there are a few elements that I am jotting into the ABCD Design File.
Let’s move on to an entirely different country house – one that I am completely smitten with! Besides loving the black framed windows, (in the photo below) I am drawn to the millwork in this room. The high-gloss paint on the ceiling brings in tons of light – note taken! I also like how they’ve combined both stained and painted wood in this room. Especially the treatment on the steps. Speaking of the steps, how about that grandmother clock? Oh, how I hope to stumble upon my perfect clock when I am out antiquing one day…
There are so many things that I really like about the feel of this house. The neutral palette is one of them. I am drawn to this combination of white, brown, black and grey. Both the jute rugs and the lack of pattern on the furniture help to keep everything feeling calm and serene. As much as I may try to stick to this color palette, our vintage poster collection adds color to any room it touches. It’s going to be interesting to see where they land in our new home!
I needn’t say much more about this fabulous kitchen - however I must admit that I love the look of black iron knobs. (P.S. Like stainless steel, I think I am over satin nickel.) I would like to incorporate at least 6 gas burners and two ovens in our new place. Possibly even an AGA cooker?
Below we have the image of the opposite side of the kitchen -notice they have my very favorite two drawer Fisher and Paykel dishwasher!- I’d like to take this photo as the inspiration for the mud/pantry/laundry room. The black window frames combined with painted white wood trim, the cararra marble back splash and maybe even an apron sink? = my heaven!
I can always count on Traditional Home to give me interior design inspiration. Currently, they have an entire section of their website dedicated to weekend living- in other words – decorating the second home. Kudos to Traditional Home for impeccable timing!

These images have my lungs full of clean country air! I would be the little city mouse napping on the screened porch! Spoken like a true southern belle, “Sweet tea anyone?”

Amy!! I love the second space and will be adding the beam room to my own cottage folder. Our own folder is growing by the day and it is so much fun to daydream about it! I agree Traditional Home fills a great void for me and I already see the magazine evolving to a younger generation. I am excited to see the changes as new people come on board!

@Juliann,
Great point about them evolving to the younger generation – I had yet to put that point together.
P.S. So glad I was able to help your cottage file grow by doing this post today!
@Erika + @punctuation mark – It’s lovely to see “new voices” commenting here on ABCD Design. I really appreciate hearing from you.
@erika – sweet tea, eh? I love porches, but I am more of an iced-espresso kinda gal.

The first picture makes my day! I love rocking chairs on a porch. Rocking in them, enjoying the view is better than any medicine. I’m with Erika – sweet tea is a must
