Stonehill Kitchen Design: a recipe for a country kitchen

The Woodmode Stonehill Kitchen was featured on www.KitchenDesigns.com yesterday. I doubt I will change the design direction on our country house kitchen – our space isn’t grand enough to start a mix ‘n’ match cabinetry scheme – but please tell me that this is not a recipe for the perfect country kitchen, will you?

I have never seen a fireplace in the kitchen! I absolutely love that idea. This kitchen is so cozy. It reminds me of thanksgiving morning and cooking all day.

Oh gosh ~ see, I grew up in a house that had a fireplace in the kitchen!! I just always thought that is an element that a real country kitchen always had.

    Funny, isn’t it?

Hilaire — thanks for chiming in today!

Great Kitchens – We have a fireplace in the kitchen – best thing ever! It goes all winter.
I know Ken Kelly- I shot some of his kitchens for Better Homes & Gardens a few years back on Long Island! Are you having too much fun planning your new kitchen? SO MUCH FUN!!!

I love kitchen cabinetry that looks like pieces of furniture, the hutch is really beautiful.

We recently popped into a way out of our price range open house and they had a wood burning fireplace in the kitchen, swoon.

I don’t really know what I would do with a kitchen, were I blessed with all the room in the world in which to put said kitchen. And, yes, I do know that no one really has “all the room in the world,” but lots and lots of people have considerably more room than I have! All I can do, I guess, is just keep surfing the Internet, hoping that I will find designs that I can put to use in my own kitchen. A little here, a little there, that sort of thing. That said, I will say, and I DO say, that you have given me much to think about with your concepts, and I thank you for sharing your ideas. And who knows? Maybe one fine day I will be sharing an absolutely smashing, albeit small, kitchen design!

Hey Amy, what a wonderful kitchen. I love the mix of finishes, the variety of cabinet fronts, and of course, the amazing fireplace. That is surely icing on the cake. Inspiring post!

Am not sure about the country look, however as you said you don’t really want to veer too much away from the style and charm that is Connecticut. Unless your space is really as large as those are, I couldn’t see such a deep stain on the cabinets. But a fireplace has always been a dream as well. Am sure no matter what you choose, it will look amazing and just right.

Michelle, The space is interesting — it’s a galley with a big window on far end and a dining room on the other end through a double door. there are also 4 door ways, 2 to the living room 1 leading to the laundry and 1 to the front hall.

They currently have a dark red kitchen and it looks quite nice — so I am not worried about putting in dark stain or paint.

Sally – thanks for stopping by today!

Joseph — thanks for chiming in today — Have you ever read Love Live Small blog? Perhaps you’ll find your tiny kitchen inspiration there??

Thanks to everyone who has chimed in so far today ~ I adore hearing from you.

I think perhaps I watched too much Little House on the Prairie as a kid because the fireplace in the kitchen pulls on my heartstrings in a big way. Great images.
