When we took possession of the new house there was one coat closet in the front hall and one pseudo-closet in the master bedroom. We knocked out the wall in the master which means we’re down to one closet. Me and the Mr. have had the challenge of finding places in our new basement-less, garage-less house to store our belongings.We quickly realized that the current kitchen didn’t suit our taste. The decision was made early on to re-purpose the old cabinetry out in the barn. This will allow us to create new storage from something we already own, (eco and budget friendly) as well as allow us to do capital improvements on the property by putting in a higher quality kitchen.Over this past weekend we finished removing the old kitchen and reinstalled them in what I am now calling the romper room. For such a little home, we’re going to be up to our ears in storage cabinets once the new kitchen is installed – Hooray!I don’t know if you remember my old kitchen or not, but I was quite lucky to have a ton of kitchen cabinetry in our old NYC apartment. I kid you not, every single kitchen cabinet in the City was full. When you grow up with the last name Cupp, the china collection starts at a very young age! Since the new Country kitchen is smaller than the old City kitchen – bonus cabinetry in the barn is going to be key. I’ll place less used holiday china, punch bowls, and other items like the fondue pot in the romper room. With the demolition complete, we were scheduled to start pouring the concrete floors this week. Unfortunately, the man we scheduled to do the work has pulled a disappearing act. I am a nice person, so I will not link to his company name or badmouth him here in this very public forum. Had he been savvy in social media, I am certain he would have treated us with a little more respect.Concrete specialist No. 1 insisted we pull out all of the flooring in the house before our 1st meeting and then he didn’t show up for our scheduled appointment. After he stood us up, he forwarded all my calls to voice mail and stopped returning e-mails. Classy, no? His behavior sent me scrambling for a new vendor. (In the long run, I am much happier with our new flooring guy.) However, that doesn’t change the fact that I am now one week behind schedule. Hey Dude, thanks for screwing us! You’re a real champ.With our demolition complete, our friend (who helped us demo everything) and his awesome dog hit the road and headed back down South. I have a few things to wrap up at the house today, and then it looks like I am on my way into the City for the rest of the week.
