{Do you know?} Dash and Albert Rug Company
I first saw Dash and Albert rugs when we stayed at bed and breakfast that was built in 1741. The B & B owner had a Dash and Albert rug on the floor inside the front door. A smaller, 2×3 version made an appearance on the floor in the bathroom of our room. I was instantly struck by the modernity of this accessory in such an old New England structure.
They’ve done an impeccable job on the interior design of the B & B itself. I was particularly impressed by how they incorporated the trend of geometric rugs we’ve seen in home decor. By picking a neutral straw color that doesn’t compete with the rest of the vintage and transitional decor, the rug just belongs in that old 1741 space. See below? We have ever-classic spooled and spindled turned table legs sitting upon vintage hex tile – it looks so fresh and current with these geometric rugs!
Dash and Albert describe the easy maintenance and care of these Diamond indoor/outdoor rugs best:
Diamonds (and polypropylene) are forever.
A rug for all seasons. Made of superheroic polypropylene, our indoor/outdoor area rugs are terrific for high-traffic areas and muddy messes. Scrubbable, bleachable and UV-treated for outdoor use, this collection of woven rugs can stand up to all that you dish out.
Every choice I have made on our renovation project has been about utilitarianism. What choices can I make for our home so that I am not a virtual slave to my stuff? From the indestructible poured concrete floors and Shaker Peg Rail to the integrated kitchen appliances -You won’t find me chasing down fingerprints on the Stainless Steel, no Ma’am! I want each inch of our home to be a usable, low-maintenance, utilitarian space. “We only use that fill-in-the-blank on special occasions.” is not in the vocabulary. Self-indulgent? Maybe. But life is short. Why not eat off “the good china” everyday?
Dash and Albert rugs are available online, as well as in fine boutiques. You bet that light blue and ivory one could be making an appearance in The Country House!

Ludmila – so glad I could introduce you to Dash and Albert!
Chelsey, the diamond pattern looks current, but it’s one of the original 4-harness weaving patterns ~ one of the first ones I learned to make when weaving. Funny thing is, when we I was in college, they gave us this ‘strange fiber’ made from the left-overs from plastic production to practice weaving with. I *hated* it because it wasn’t natural. I loved, loved weaving with chenille and kettle-dyed cashmere and mohair.
That strange fiber must have been polypropylene! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polypropylene
Funny that I’d want a carpet made out of a fiber that I detested in college!
Never.Say.Never.
Thanks for chiming in ladies!

I’ve never heard of them but I love these designs! Indoor/Outdoor rugs are such a smart choice too.

I have long been a fan! The indoor/outdoor rugs, esp the diamond pattern, are totally chic and as a bonus they are indestructible. My feet are sitting on my diamond print khaki and white D&A rug right now! Dying to do a striped stair runner for my back hall, like the one shown in your first pic, someday too.

I love the look, but not so thrilled with the polypropylene. Although you won’t be microwaving it or putting it in the dishwasher, I think it is still possible that it could leak toxins into your home. I’ll be looking at their cotton and wool options!

Irwin & I were just discussing finding a colorful stripe for the stairs from our bedroom in the country at lunch today! Because of a neck issue, Charlie sometimes has trouble coming down our stairs, which are painted.

Melissa — I’d venture to guess there are a lot more things in your home that are worse than some polypropylene on a 2×3 rug. Think about all your cabinetry in the kitchen, the epoxy on your wood floors, the paint (unless you’ve recently painted) and most of all the furniture you have in your house. Unless you’ve started from scratch, even the pillows in your house that have foam cushions leak toxins. Anyway, it’s a valid point, and if you’re trying to avoid brining more into the home maybe the indoor outdoor rugs might not be for you. Although, you also make a smart point -in that- they have plenty of fab cotton and wool options!
Marcy – does this comment mean you’re considering a runner by Dash and Albert?
Casey + Niki – it’s always fun to read/see new people chiming in on ABCD Design! Thanks for chiming in.
