ABCD’s {crushing on} Matte Gold Flatware
Over the last year and a half, I have written a multitude of times about brass being back, how I adore gold accents, and about incorporating this pretty metallic into home decor in a modern way. I’ve long preferred wearing yellow gold over white, and it was only a matter of time before I started to want to decorate with it.
Recently liberated from storage: my set of matte gold flatware. It was a gift from my mom last Winter. I had seen this set during our Summertime visit to Northern Michigan at one of my all time favorite stores, Huzza. I mentioned these pretties to my mom and how I’d love to set our table with gold flatware. To my delight, she decided to gift them to us for Christmas!
On a recent visit to Ochre in Soho, I saw that they too were selling gold flatware. I just unpacked ours, and I can not wait to see them incorporated with our china. The boxes of china will remain packed until our kitchen cabinets are installed sometime next month ~ perhaps they will make their debut on our Thanksgiving table?
I did a little hunting around, and if the clean lines that Huzza, Ochre, and All Modern are offering don’t suit you – it seems that Horchow and Neiman Marcus are hot on the gold rush trail. They’re offering more traditional lines in gleaming gold.
Obviously, I have personally dropped the stigma of yellow gold, but that about you? What do you think about gold accents on the dining table? Do you still have memories of your great aunt’s horrible brass cocktail table -or- can you embrace the look of gold with open arms?

Debbie, If they have not made a come back, I am pretending (in my world) they have! I think you’re right, the matte is a bit more updated over the shiny chrome like finish, isn’t it?

Morning! Being a natural magpie, I love gold flatware too. We have some in our store & on our website: http://www.michelevarian.com/IBS/SimpleCat/Product/asp/product-id/37010754.html It’s kind of the in between version of the different styles you’ve posted. It’s from Italy and it’s matte gold over stainless steel. They’re perfectly weighted in the hand and come in they’re own wooden storage box. I love them.

I’m so into gold right now. Antique brass, gaudy brass, matte gold and the like, I love it all. The matte gold flatware is sophisticated and modern – a great selection! A look I’m very drawn to these days.

Sara Kate, It’s hard not to think they’ll be perfect on the holiday table ~ but also quite gorgeous any other time of the year. I have a set of mint green and lavender dishes that have a gold rim around them ~ wouldn’t that make a pretty table for a garden party?

I love your set and the modern one but the more traditional are a bit too garish for me. Can your Mom adopt me and give me a set? glad to see the return of a warm metal that isnt oil rubbed bronze!

Oh, ABCD, seriously I love gold cutlery. Zara Home does the most fantastic designs at such affordable prices – I keep meaning to pick some up and your post has reminded me just how lovely it would be for the holiday season.

Am loving the gold too but especially, brass. It’s a poor man’s gold but imparts so many of its own characters in its sheen and knicks. You are so lucky to have a sweet sweet mom who bought you this beautiful set!

They’re all striking … I really love the gold bamboo, they look like pieces of jewelry and would be very sparkly on a table. I’ve learned not to rule out gold, silver, bronze, or whatever metallic finish, because they can all be lovely — I think it’s all in how you use it. My wide wedding band is hammered gold and the service above reminds me of it
I love to collect dishes and silverware and some of my serving pieces have silver accents like tiny dots around the edge and some gold rims and designs. Love it all!

Thanks for chiming in today, and I agree with you, (obvs!) the matte/modern is more interesting to me = it’s chic.

hey there, i love the matt gold! i’ve been one of these people that combine gold and silver jewellery. Firstly because my wedding ring was white gold and silver..but then it just evolved because i like wearing pieces that mean something to me. I never thought to apply that to my table top! light bulb just went on! thanks heaps.

I’ve always loved silverware but hate the cleaning of it. My sister in law 30 years ago picked out her china and because it was gold rimmed she purchased gold cutlery…I thought it was terrible at the time! LOL! Though I must admit I like the matte gold much better than the shiny finish.
