{fresh off the needles} The Rapunzel Hat
I awoke one morning this Fall thinking about my newest knitting project and Rapunzel’s braids. I wanted a new winter hat with cable knit ear flaps so long that they made me look like her. This hat took me a long time to finish, mostly because I worked on it in fits and spurts. If I had just focused on it ~ I would have had it off the needles within a week, no problem.
The hat is made out of Manos Del Uruguay multi-color wool-silk blend. Silk is great because it keeps you warmer than wool alone. I used the double seed stitch as the main pattern in the hat. The “braids” are my favorite go-to cable stitch – the chevron from A Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara G. Walker.

I love it. The colors, the braids- everything. Looks like just the right hat for this weather.

Bruce! I started this hat for the Mr. because I knew it would look great on him. He however, thought it “too girly” and so I adjusted the pattern to make it for myself. Next time, I will have to just knit it for you!

Great work, Amy! I can’t say I knew you were a knitter, but that’s another thing we have in common. I used to have a needlework shop, and was a knitting fiend for many years. I’m trying to finish scarves for all the girls in the famiily for their stockings, so I’m knitting like a crazy person these days. I’m impressed with your patterning skills…that’s the hardest part. The color is amazing with your eyes! Merry Christmas!
