Dream Decorating: The Master Bedroom

I first saw this image on Pinterest, where I discovered a magnificently inspiring blog by Mia Linnman called Solid Frog. I then came across the same image on Meredith Heron’s blog. If you have not been to Meredith’s new blogsite, Sashay – I highly suggest that you check it out. Aside from curating beautifully inspirational interior design images, she writes about her process of design and she also educates potential interior design clients. (In my book, that makes a winning combination!)Do you see what is happening here? Tone on tone color. It’s exactly what I loved last week about the Pewter Tea and Coffee Pots on the Ochre rectangular Moon table in the dining room against the Chelsea Grey walls. Not only do I adore the idea of the grey headboard on a grey wall, but I also love the height of it. As you might recall, I painted our master bedroom Kendall Charcoal. It’s much darker than the dining room, and has an army green undertone. We currently have the West Elm canopy bed from our Soho apartment set up in the master. Due to the narrow width of the room and the extreme height of the ceiling in the new space, the proportions are completely ‘off’ for a canopy bed – it makes me bonkers every time I walk in and see the canopy bed competing with our knotty pine ceilings. Ideally I’ll move the West Elm bed (which we got on super sale in 2007) out to the barn to create extra sleeping quarters and we’ll upgrade our bed to something that suits the master bedroom space better.Since we moved into the house last Summer, I’ve been thinking about Nicole’s headboard. I love the height of it. And the pendants over the bed? Yes please! I also love a good looking Gustavian headboard. Which, (coincidentally) would look amazing with our cathedral ceilings, but I feel like I would think of Grace Bonney every time I turned in for the night. Nothing against Design*Sponge - but she’s single handedly made that headboard shape ultra popular. (Hello: Dwell Studio, Serena and Lily, West Elm, Pottery Barn - I am talking to you!) I keep thinking about the bed we have in the City and how it would look so much better up in The Country House. It’s the right color and super modern. It’s not quite as tall as I imagine for that wall, but seems a shame to buy a new grey bed when I already have one that I adore. (That’s nothing a curtain or some fabulous Mid-Century Modern artwork couldn’t fix.) I wonder how long I will have to wait to move up here full time? Ugh, I am getting ahead of myself. One day at a time…

What a lovely post!! I think the vintage crewel fabric would be a beautiful addition, especially with the other pieces you are collecting. I think my favorite though is the ultra high wingback headboard. Inviting and charming!

I adore crewel fabric. Totally understand the burning a hole in my pocket reference. Why not move the city bed to the country? You already love it. I love the direction you are going in the country house.

Will a simple “Yes” to everything suffice? I saw no bad moves here, but then again, I have yet to see one from you! (The D*S thing has been done to death, and that’s okay for some folks.) You have an artist’s eye. Trust it!
