{Slow Home Decor} A Pair of Vintage Sofas
I went antiquing down Route 7 with our house guests over the 4th of July holiday. I found this pair of petite sofas – they are priced so right, I nearly bought them on the spot without asking the Mr to sit upon them. What you might not know is that we have a fireplace room at the top of the steps that I lovingly refer to as the furniture graveyard.
What we’ve got is a double height room, painted white, with a lot of light and a fireplace. The space remains pretty much empty with exception of a few lost pieces that didn’t make the cut elsewhere in our home. The fact is that it is a lovely space and would be a cozy spot to read a book or play a board game by the fire – but right now – there is currently nothing to sit upon but a few vintage bridge chairs.
When I first saw them, I knew their 53 inch length was perfect for our narrow living area. I absolutely loathed the fabric that they were upholstered in, but as I looked at the photos I started to realize that they would actually be quite striking in our space! They’d look fresh with a nice solid white or jute carpet under them, don’t you think?
You might think I am crazy, but they’re being delivered to the house on Sunday. It will feel good to have that spot in the house start to feel settled. I had been considering having sofas made for the space, but I am glad I found something that fits the bill that is both economical and eco friendly. Oh, and check out what else is happening in the room…
I think they’ll look pretty good in that room, don’t you? It’s pretty funny that I wrote a post over a year ago talking about espresso, black and cream together as an inspiration for the color palette in our new home. As you know, I ended up going for more of a black, grey and white color palette. Maybe the fireplace room is where I should punch up the white, cream, and espresso colors? Looks like it’s happening regardless of me trying – with the delivery of our new vintage sofas and all!
BTW: wordpress is asking me to update my safari, but first I have to back up my ABCD Design files. You all know that my computer is full, full, FULL and I don’t have enough room to do anything of the sort. I am waiting for Apple to introduce Lion so I don’t go and buy myself a computer that outdated the first day I take it home. Needless to say, I am not sure what to do!

I actually love their current upholstery! It has something very graphic and striking about it, and their shape is amazing too (I love me a small boxy sofa). I’m sure they’ll be great in that room!
