{Let’s Go!} Central London

When we lived part-time in London, our trips happened like clockwork. Every four weeks. We’d usually stay in the UK for 2 or 3 weeks, then we’d return to New York City for 3-4 weeks, only to pack up and return to London again. On occasion, we’d also have to make longer stays that lasted about two months at a time. Needless to say, I’d barely get unpacked where I was going, only to pack my bags again and board another trans-Atlantic flight. We stayed in the yellow apartment (above) for two whole months. I swear, what a visual assault on the senses! During most of our visits, we stayed in an apartment style hotel rooms. Sometimes we’d be in the Marble Arch area, just off of Hyde Park. (BTW: when hanging out in Marlebone, be sure to eat at Colbeh – I dream of their authentic Persian cuisine daily.)I always liked being a hop, skip and a jump from Oxford High Street, the restaurants on St. Christopher’s Place, and amazing shopping at Selfridges. (Finished browsing on the High Street? Pop in for great Italian food at Carluccios.) Other times, we stayed in Knightsbridge – you know – where world famous Harrods is. I have to tell you though, you’ll find better shopping is on Sloane Square. However, I never quite got used to how fancy it was. I didn’t fit in. It’s sort of like visiting the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
On a rare occasion we stayed in Leicester Square, which is the London equivalent of staying smack dab in Times Square. Most of our visits put us on Half Moon Street in Mayfair. I loved staying there because there is a little walking village area called Shepherds Market buried in paved alleys of buildings that are older than I can put a date on. (Again, my favorite cuisine in that neighborhood has to be Italian – I absolutely love the spaghetti carbonara and stuffed aubergine at Da Corradi.)
Looking at these old photos and reminiscing about all the delicious meals that I have indulged in while staying in London makes me really eager to get back to town with BlogTour! I hope that I get a whole slew of great new photographs to share with you here on ABCD Design.

Very cool! Even though it must have been tough traveling back and forth, that’s something that is an experience of a lifetime, I’m sure. I’ve never been to England, period! So cool.

Ha ha – just as I was moaning about life in London and about how much I miss NYC…You just had to go put a positive (and beautiful!) spin on it! I’ll go out for a ‘spot of shopping’ on King’s Road tomorrow and pop in to Paul Bakery on your behalf.

    London kisses. xxx

    Hey Susan!
The grass is alaways greener, isn’t it? ;) I can’t wait to visit my old stomping grounds. Most of all, I adore Bar Italia in Soho-they have a great cappuccino & chicken panini. I can’t wait to catch up with you and see how life in London is treating you-splendidly, I hope!
