Day 1: BlogTour 2011

We arrived at the Victoria and Albert Museum late in the afternoon after touching down in London just before lunchtime. All of us were exhausted from overnight flights from the USA and Canada, but we rallied! What a wonderful afternoon it turned out to be. I’ve long loved the V&A – which focuses on all design related to the decorative arts. This visit was special as we had William (one of the organizers) from the London Design Festival taking us on tour.Out of everything we saw today, I think I liked this installation that invited the public to interact and enjoy it. The gallery room was built in 1865, when people thought of Raphael as the greatest painter of all time. The space is painted grey and is an homage to his work. The Textile Field is by French artists Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec. When speaking about the space, Erwan says “It has this quality of a church, a really wonderful volume, but then in a way it makes you feel too small – a sense of sacré – holiness.” The space was quiet like a sanctuary until BlogTour arrived…After the museum, we went out for dinner at a wonderful Tapas restaurant. There was lots of red wine, cured meat and fish, sautéed shrimp, cheese, olives stuffed with mandarin orange with a bit of salt, pepper and oregano, bread, and my favorite new thing to eat, roasted, salted chilies. YUM!After a deliciously relaxing dinner – I am talking we started at 5pm and didn’t finish until 9 – we walked over to a party at The Conran Shop where Jonathan Legate and I tweeted with our followers about the London Design Festival. Exhausted, we managed to pull together a bit of a Twitter party where we reminisced about our first day in Londontown with all our #designTV participants.

Amazing how much you’ve accomplished on very little sleep! So glad you’re having a great time. I ‘love’ the V&A and ‘love’ London! How much fun that you’re getting to spend time w/ other bloggers.
