I’ve had the same white sheets in our spare bedroom for a very, very long time. They’re Frette Hotel Classic linens. Before they were spare bedroom linens, they were my own. I purchased them for my one bedroom apartment on West 12th Street back when I moved to New York City. They’ve lasted me forever (Hello, 1999?) and I kind of hated to move on – but the fact remained that I longed for something to pull together our guest room before mom and dad arrived. I didn’t want to spend too much money. I didn’t have a Frette budget for this guest bedroom freshen-up.When we found the vintage sofas for the fireplace room, our Oushak carpet needed to find a new home. As luck would have it, the carpet happened to look great with the butter yellow paint color that I had selected for our spare bedroom. Having a nice carpet in the guest room cozied up the place, so I was completely into the idea of moving it in there. As you might remember, I had originally planned to use my mom’s quilt in the guest bedroom.

Besides the quilt being not perfect with the rug, we also have another issue. Due to the artistic nature of the leaves and flowers on the nesting bed, if the linens are not carefully handled, they rip to shreds. It was fine when I was the only one sleeping in the bed because I am aware of the issues that come with sleeping in a bed that resembles more of a sculpture than a place to sleep, but I don’t want to make my house guests completely paranoid by warning them about ripping the sheets.I know I say “Life is short. Eat off the good china.” but given that I’d like to see the quilt last for generations to come, I am super anxious about leaving it in the spare room with guests who might not realize how dangerous the nesting bed is. For everyone’s comfort, it seemed only natural that I should put something less precious on the bed. I am so happy that I found the George collection in the boy’s section at Serena and Lily.The George Collection by Serena and Lily is exactly what I was looking for. The mix of patterns exudes the ‘fun-cottage-cozy’ feel I was looking for. As an added bonus: in a world where it seems absolutely everything is made in China – I just love that their bedding is made in the USA. As you know, I am usually pretty apprehensive about ordering things online without first experiencing them in real life. I was short on time before my parents arrived, so I decided to give it a go and place the order. To my great surprise, I was beyond delighted by the high quality linens that arrived at my doorstep.
