For the LOVE of Handmade {ABCD’s 4th Blog-i-versary Giveaway}

Remember yesterday when I told you about Leaf Mag and how their entire focus is about making the outdoors beautifully designed? Well, today I have a 4th blog-i-versary prize to giveaway that will help you live more beautifully outdoors. Just keep reading! But first, let me tell you a little Twitter story. Twitter is a pretty remarkable place. I know, I have told you that before…but it truly is! Imagine: you’re just out there reading your customized news feed full of information that fills in all the blanks about things you’re interested in. For instance: recently I shared the work of ceramic artist Sophie Woodrow with my twitter followers, and Jen Selk was so taken with it that she was inspired to write a whole post about Sophie’s work. Neat, right? There are other cool things happen on Twitter too. Late last Summer, I “met” a company (who’s amazing mattresses I have been aware of for many years) on Twitter. You know Hästens handmade mattresses, right? If you don’t, you should! Hästens describes their beds best: “Every Hästens bed is crafted with pride and care, using natural products by a team of skilled craftsmen in our historic facility in Köping, Sweden. Each handmade bed is built bespoke to fit your personal specification. This is the way we have built beds for more than 150 years, and it is a philosophy that has been handed down for five generations. The difference is not merely something you can see, but something you will feel naturally, night after night.” At this point, I am sure you’re asking: “Does ABCD have a point here? Twitter, mattresses, ceramic artists…” But of course I do! You see, Hästens ran a handmade hammock giveaway on Twitter last Summer. And just by tweeting a photo of where I’d put my Hästens hammock if I won it @HastensGlobal, I was entered to win. I WON! Can I tell you how incredible it is? It’s quite possibly the most beautifully handmade thing I own. We’d been enjoying the hammock for over a month when the BlogTour trip happened. The day we went to Decorex, I made an effort to stop by the Hästens booth to meet and thank them for the lovely gift. I had the chance to meet face to face with the person I have been tweeting with. I can’t tell you how fantastic it is to close that circle and put a 3-D face to an avatar.Hästens has agreed to give one of my readers a brand new, handmade hammock of their very own! How cool is that? Here’s the deal, you have to comment on this post AND post a photo of where you’d hang your hammock on my ABCD Design Facebook page. I’ll announce the winner a week from today. Good luck! October 27th, 3:00pm the giveaway has now ended and comments are closed. Thanks to everyone who entered to win!

I’m with Lee – a FABULOUS giveaway indeed. I so wish I had a spot – I’d be there all summer as well!!

Wow, I’m on board with the fabulous!! I’m not sure where I’d put it just yet, but I’ll think of something within the week ;) Thx!!

Lee, we did that when I was a kid=worked like a charm. Take a pic of the view from where it would hang. That’d work too! ;) Good luck!

I would love a hammock, to just put up in the porch, My place is simple and plain, but isn’t that the point of relaxing in a hammock

  6. ABCDragoo on 20 Oct 2011 at 3:12 pm

David, it doesn’t have to be fancy! Just a place outside, or on your porch that you’d like to relax!
Thanks for commenting, and good luck!

Twitter really is the best. No need to enter me in the giveaway – I have nowhere to put a hammock. But good luck to everyone else!

Oh I have the perfect place to put it, our new vacation home that we will take possession of next month. Wish me luck! Have a great weekend!

    Amy Beth,

I missed the natural horn nesting bowls so will try again here for the hammock! It looks beautiful. Would be perfect at our place in Stowe VT under 2 large chestnut trees I planted there with my grandmother back in 1974 when I was just a little guy. The chestnuts came from Pondfield road in Bronxville NY where we lived at that time and I picked them with my grandmother. THe trees are now over 20 feet tall with chestnuts of their own for the first time this year!

Love this blog and best wishes again for a wonderful 4th anniversary of a wonderful blog. Many more years of success with this too I wish you.

This is the most beautiful hammock I have ever seen. I have the perfect hammock stand for this! The dogs and I would sit on the porch and enjoy these final days of fall sunshine.

Hi Amy and Happy 4th Anniversary! I’ve really been enjoying your blog and so happy I found it through the magic of Twitter! Our house is old and made of stone, built in 1905 so there have been many different families and changes made over the years! In the front of the house, there are two old stone posts that at one time led to a small gated garden…in the back of the space is an enormous gnarly and twisted beautiful deep pink rose bush that has climbed up an Alder tree–it smells so lovely in the summer. The sea is a small distance off-high tide waves always sound so pretty. The garden is long gone, the posts remain though and we’ve always thought what a special spot that might be for a hammock. I’ll share a picture of one of the stone posts on your FB page. Thanks!

I am still learning the ins and outs of twitter. There are so many amazing opportunities….and of course it keeps me in contact with amazing people like you. I have lots of places here in the mountains to hang that beautiful hammock. I will keep my fingers crossed!!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog and your stories and your photos AND the fact you won a Hastens hammock!! We had a hammock once but it had that HUGE ugly stand and took up 1/2 of our back yard, so it went by the wayside. We now have a full grown Oak tree we planted years ago right outside my bedroom window seat…the perfect spot for a few lazy hours on a Hastens hammock. And now maybe my hubbie will forgive me for getting rid of our previous hammock. So count me in! :-)

Oh — I have the perfect place! — right where my last hammock was (that recently gave out after over use – strings and mess everywhere; small children crying) — will share the remnant picture on your facebook page! = ;) -

    Hi Amy Beth!
Congratulations on the fourth anniversary of your beautiful blog.
I would hang the hammock under my grape arbor – where we our previous hammock hung. It’s lovely to think about how we’d spend time in it… reading and napping. Thank you!

Oh god, I need to find where that piece of luxurious perfectness would hang, because I haven’t a clue. I may just have to move to find the ideal spot for something so yummy!…

Oh cool!! I would love to share with you a part of my backyard I call the grotto, which I have envisioned as a future place of respite. Thank you!

Love your blog! It’s one of my favorite reads. I’d put it on our loft roof, or in the backyard!

  20. Kerry John on 26 Oct 2011 at 6:28 pm

Oh Amy! This hammock would be perfect on the upstairs porch of our family cottage in northern Michigan. It’s already my go-to spot for reading and naps… the Hastens hammock would be the icing on the cake!

  21. meredith on 27 Oct 2011 at 8:31 am

This is a STUNNING hammock! I would actually love to hang it INSIDE somewhere. Perfect for a lake house!

  22. kaylynn on 27 Oct 2011 at 8:33 am

That hammock is absolutely beautiful. We’re moving at the end of this month and that hammock would make a beautiful addition to our new backyard oasis. :)
Your blog has been an endless source of inspiration for the decor of our new place. Thank you!

  23. Lisa Kahn on 27 Oct 2011 at 8:33 am

WOW those are beautiful, Amy. Just gorgeous. I have a perfect hammock spot on my lanai overlooking the lake behind my house. My old hammock is worn out and needs replacing. :) BEAUTIFUL post.

  24. Debby Ruth on 27 Oct 2011 at 8:46 am

In love with your blog–the photos draw you in and inspire. The is a little hill next to our house that has a rock outcropping and a wonderful view of the Catskills. A Hammock between the trees, near the rustic wooden bench would be a perfect place for reflection. (Pictured on your FB page, but imagine it without the rain!) -DR

  25. anna on 27 Oct 2011 at 8:56 am

It’s a dream come true. Wait till you see my perfect two trees for a beautiful hammock! So lovely. Thanks for the inspiration.

You can find my perfect Hastens spot here..https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=303130059698072&set=o.116179178450744&type=1

I think it makes the perfect combo to relax and drink a nice Pimms. :)

  27. Renee on 27 Oct 2011 at 12:42 pm

I would hang the hammock on one of those stands so I could move it to any spot in my yard. Sunny spot in the cool weather, shady spot in the heat, under the deck spot in the rain. I have always wanted a hammock and this one would be fantastic!

  28. Debby on 27 Oct 2011 at 2:19 pm

I’ve posted an image of our little patio on Facebook! :-D

I’m not sure that I would even qualify to enter. (No worries if it isn’t okay!) We would add a stand for the hammock and finally kick our old, termite infested chairs to the curb. I think it would look lovely on the sunny patio!

  29. Heather on 27 Oct 2011 at 3:06 pm

I’m a little late to the party but I hope I made it. These are beautiful!
