Weekend Flowers: Halloween Decoration Edition!

We have house guests for the second time in so many weekends. This weekend, we have friends that I met when I was in college who are visiting from Washington, D.C. My girlfriend is Vegan, so I made Mulligatawny Soup – but skipped the chicken, chicken stock and butter and opted for a mixture of olive oil/canola, and vegetarian soup stock. I’m looking forward to showing them around our area this weekend, and to enjoying the last bits of gold on the trees. These are the flowers I designed for our house guest last weekend. Can you believe most of them are still going strong? That comes from proper care and conditioning before you arrange them. It also comes from changing the water and giving them a tiny trim of the stems on a daily basis. If the weather is as good as they predict, you bet there will be some Hästens hammock time! Happy Fall weekend to you.

There is nothing better than fresh flowers in a home! Love your arrangements :)

When I see your gorgeous floral arrangements on your blog, I’m envious at the wide selection of fresh flowers you are able to get your hands on at the flower markets. We have nothing like that here in Ottawa. Keep the floral posts coming.

Fresh flowers can always make a room so pretty and inviting… and these flower arrangements that you created along with the pretty vases and Halloween decorations are beautiful and warm.
By the way I never decorate for Halloween – however this post inspires me!
    Thanks for sharing…
    Jackie :-)

Amy, your flower arrangements are gorgeous; and the vases you are putting them in are perfect! I’m curious about the size of your “vase” collection, how long have you been collecting? In the previous post and this one, I couldn’t help but notice how perfect the containers were/are to the arrangements you put together.

    Hi Sarah!

I have about 12 crystal vases, plus a about 6 ceramic ones, and a small collection of bud vases. Honestly, if you have one tall skinny vase, a rose bowl, 1 tall and 1 short wide mouth vase and a tiny bud base, you’ll be set!

I arrange my flowers to look pretty in the vases I have – usually you can go with the tallest flower in the arrangement being as tall as the container it’s in to look proportional.

    Have a great weekend!

Korrie, the mums are all outside the house surrounding both the front door and the mudroom door, as well as out on the blue stone patio. You can see them on this post: http://www.abcddesign.com/archives/2011/10/24/fall-color-at-the-country-house-autumn-decorations/ Thanks for commenting!
