A New Year, New Projects and a New Look!
Today is my first day back in New York City since before the holidays. I inherited yet another carpet from mom while we were visiting over Christmas, and I have it laying on the bedroom floor waiting for placement under our bed. It’s a spectacular needlepoint. The colors play so nicely with the colors of the posters hanging over our bed. My goodness, it’s such a very happy accident!
On the professional side of things, sometime in mid-December I took on two new interior design jobs which have added to my already busy ABCD Design schedule. The first is a City project where we are designing a living and dining room for a busy, young, newly married couple. I have partnered with High Falls Mercantile and am doing more of a home shopping project with the client. I have selected several furniture shapes that I like for their space, and have presented them with several color schemes. We’ll source practically everything from furniture to lamps and accessories through Larry’s store.

The other job is a much more extensive project out in the country. It’s the interior decoration of an entire house in Northwest Connecticut! The house is entirely gutted, and I am helping make the aesthetic decisions on absolutely every nook and cranny throughout the house. Marvin windows: metal clad or wood? Kitchen cabinetry: design, finishes, and hardware. Bathroom: fixtures, cabinetry…and on and on. I thought it might, but this new country house interior project doesn’t make me stop wanting to do more renovations our very own Country House.
This week I will be selecting plumbing fixtures for the new Country House project, searching for dining tables for the City project and getting glass breezeway extension pricing for The Country House. If you have not noticed, the ABCD Designs Tumblr page has a new look and I am going to make an effort to update it more frequently with my interior design project inspiration photos. Please follow along if you’re interested!
The photos in this post are my own, with exception of the letterpress calendar by Hammer and Fox. The inspiration photos were taken with my iPhone at the initial meeting with my client – I don’t have the source of the magazine tears. They are not the best quality photos, but I thought it would be helpful for you to see what it is she showed me and how I interpreted the looks for her.

Beautiful colors and textures..I am partial to the orange/reds and golds but the cool grays and red pop are such a perfect contrast for that whole warm/cool vibe I love so much. All beautiful! I, too, have to get back to my tumblr blog-I really love tumblr and I’ll be looking for your updates too.
