Today we’re installing the core furniture pieces for a NYC apartment design project that I am working on. We’re redesigning the living room and dining area of their rental apartment. We purchased pieces that will easily transition with them as they move apartments and as their family grows. Just got word that there is a red tag sale happening at Hammertown. I might swing into Rhinebeck this weekend to check out this mid century modern nightstand and mid century modern chest for The Country House. {What’s on NYC?} Winter Antiques Show Young Collectors Night

Each year during the Winter Antiques Show, interior designers, new collectors, philanthropists, art and antiques enthusiasts gather to support East Side House Settlement, a social services agency that helps young people and families in the South Bronx and surrounding communities.The evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres is sponsored by New York Magazine, Benjamin Moore and Eli Tahari. Attendees will have the opportunity to browse a private showcase of American, English, European, and Asian fine and decorative arts dating from antiquity through the 1960′s. Young Collectors Night will also be host to Wendy Goodman (Design Editor of New York Magazine) and a group of 77 prestigious interior designers (aptly named the Interior Design Committee) which includes well-known names like Nate Berkus, Thom Filicia, Jonathan Adler, Celerie Kemble, Eric Cohler, Jamie Drake, Alex Papachristidis, Miles Redd…the list goes on…shall I continue?“We are thrilled to have so many prominent and influential interior designers join us for this important evening,” said Wendy Goodman. “These tastemakers are constantly re-imagining the rules of design, blending antiques into modern and contemporary settings, and celebrating old and new in stylish and sophisticated ways. It’s exciting to see the art and design communities come together to support the important work of East Side House Settlement.”

{Do you know?} Artist Norah Borden

Norah describes her Planet Earth series best “Planet Earth is about bringing focus to our planet as a whole. It is an atmospheric viewpoint depicting that we are essentially all connected on a global scale.”
The work I see on Norah Borden‘s website really speaks to me. The first painting at the top is the size and scale I would love to see in our library opposite the wall of books. And while I thought I wanted an abstract piece, Norah calls herself “more of a realist.” When I look more closely at Norah’s work, she is absolutely spot-on in her description. These paintings look like you have a photographic birds eye view of planet earth from up above in the atmosphere. To me, that makes them even more impressive. (I am quite enjoying the view from up here!)Norah’s other series is called Sea Change. It has a decidedly different feel to it – regardless, I am quite drawn to several of the pieces.
